Who can be a foster parent?

Anyone over the age of 21 can foster. No need to be married or own your home. As long as you have stable income and a stable place to live with adequate space for a child/children, you can foster!

How long does it take for a child to be placed in my home?

The initial licensing process takes roughly 4-6 months. Once your license is approved, you will be placed with a child rather quickly. Some families even bring a child home before they have received their paper license!

Can I choose which child is placed in my home?

Not exactly. You can set whatever parameters you feel would best fit your family. Example, I don’t care about race or gender but I would like a child under 10. The more specific you are, it might take longer to get a placement but we all want you to take a child/children that will best fit your family so that it is a successful placement! When the placement team calls you about taking a child/children, you can say ‘yes’ or ‘no’ during that phone call.

Do I get paid to foster?

There is not a payment for foster care, rather a reimbursement for costs related to that child.
